John Charles Rankin (80) passed away Wednesday June 23, 2021. As a man of deep faith, John’s life was marked by ministry to his church, to his country, and to Metanoia Prison Ministry at Walker State Prison. He deeply loved his country and served in the National Guard (1963-1969). After serving in the Guard, he was the owner/broker of Signal Mountain Realty.
John was active in the community. He was a past President of the Soddy Daisy Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed mentoring and developing leadership skills in young people. For many years, John was involved in music ministry at his church. With a love for music and a gifted voice, he performed in several musical theater productions at the Chattanooga Little Theater.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Rankin, and children: Suzie (Andy) Smothers, Elizabeth (Brad) Lamoreaux, Jennifer (Andrew) Harris, Charlie (Kathryn) Rankin, and 10 grandchildren; as well as his sisters Kay Rankin, Joan (Tim) Hays, Susan (Bob) Gray, and 8 nieces and nephews plus a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents John Harold and Mary Farmer Rankin.
The family will receive visitors at their home, 2:00-4:00, Sunday June 27, 2021. The family will have a private graveside service.
