John Holt, Jr., age 64, of Dunlap, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. John was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area and a 1969 graduate of Central High School. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. John retired from the United States Postal Service at the Shallowford Office. He was a loving man, who enjoyed family gatherings and would share his faith, knowledge and time with all who needed it. John enjoyed all sports, especially the Tennessee Vols. He was an artist, gardener, golfer, painter, and Rook player. He was preceded in death by his father, John Holt, Sr. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janie Giles Holt; son, John, III, and daughter, Adrianne; grandchildren, Jordan and Jaden; mother, Zelma Holt; sister Connie Chambers; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Saturday, September 10, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. There will be no visitation on Sunday. Graveside services for John will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 12, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with his friend, Gary Hobbs officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Kidney Foundation of the Greater Chattanooga area, 1307 Carter Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN.
