He was born January 18, 1935, in Pisgah, Ala., and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1953. He moved to Chattanooga shortly thereafter and began a six-decade long career in the poultry processing industry. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 for a two-year active enlistment and served in Friedberg, West Germany.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean. They were married from January 15, 1955, until her death on November 22, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, Arnett and Mary Vaughn; two brothers, Wesley G. and Larry Wayne Vaughn; and a sister, Patricia Laney.
He is survived by his three sons: James Edward Vaughn, Jr., (Angela) of Chattanooga; Jay David Vaughn (Brenda), of Chattanooga; and Glenn Travis Vaughn (Tiffany), of Moundville, Ala., and by his seven grandchildren: Erika Lyle (Steven); Whitney Amoriello (Riley); Jami Thul (Collin); Kayla Bredwell (James); Holly Neyman (Daniel); Regina Vaughn; and Isaac Vaughn.
Jim is also survived by his sisters Barbara Davis, Mary Richey, and Donna Ragan; his brother Randy Vaughn; and sister-in-law Joyce Haynes; brother-in-law, Pat Laney. Other survivors include his 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 1, and from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Graveside services will follow at 1 pm on Wednesday, October 2, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Elder Mark Haynes officiating.
