James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many in the Harrison and Chattanooga community! We send the family our sincere heartfelt condolences. He will be missed by all. But, we all have fond memories of a loving gentleman that was always there to help, lend a hand, share a story or open his home to friends! James without doubt never met a stranger and served his community and country well! We were proud to have he and Helen and the family as some of our dearest friends. Additionally, we have great memories of our times together over many years. He will be missed , but he leaves behind a great legacy to his children, grandchildren and others of being a good and descent Christian man. We will miss him, but we know to be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord and Savior. Good work our dear friend, I know your pain free and adding a sparkle to the Lord's heavenly house.

This photo was taken one day when Mr. P decided to come down to let the kids take a tractor rod on the infamous tractor that he always works so hard on! He loved the tractor shows and would always make a point to invite us. Thanks Mr p! You will be sorely missed!

Our family lived right beside the Proffitts. There are many special memories that I hold dear to my heart as we raised our family beside some very sweet folks! I remember my son, McClaine, always being so intrigued with Mr. P. and his farming skills, his ability to fix any tractor, as well as his very cool antique barns! Our youngest daughter, McKinley, was always climbing underneath the fence and running through the pasture to go sit on the back porch with Mrs. Helen. She would always have a popsicle or some kind of candy for her to enjoy while they sit and watch. Mr.P. work all day in the garden. My oldest daughter McCall was always happy to play with her siblings romping through the tall pasture grass to go play, hide and seek or just to make their way to the creek, which Mr. P continually told them how nasty it was and that they needed to not do that. Lol. Kids! On any given evening, you could hear a tractor coming down the road to our driveway to pick up the kids so that they could ride in the front loader bucket on top of a pile of corn! We are thankful for the Proffitts giving our kids a little taste of what homegrown is and the opportunity to pet the donkeys that stayed in their pasture, while pretending that they were theirs. They both demonstrated what hard work was! Mr. P would work from son up to sundown in his gardens. Mrs. Helen always canned the vegetables and fruits and would so graciously bring over freshly picked produce to share with our family. Mr. P. always remembered my young kids on Christmas Day and would bring them an ornament or candy bar just to say that he loved them. I know there were times that they probably drove him crazy while he was trying to work, being young rambunctious kiddos, but you would never know it because he always extended a welcome to come to his house to chat. Oh the stories I know that they shared! I have more memories than I have characters to put on this condolence message, but our family is forever grateful. 

This photo is taken on Mr. P.'s tractor. Always a front loader full of fresh vegetables! I am still looking for the picture of the ginormous cabbages that he brought over to show the kids that he had been growing. I think they won some kind of fair! They were huge!! I will post the picture whenever I find it.

Rusty, you might not remember me, Kim (Wilkerson) Moses. We knew each other way back when you worked at Dalewood Red Food Store. 

I wanted you to know how sorry I am about the passing of your dad. I know these are difficult times as I lost my sweet daddy in 2019. Blessings to you and your family and prayers for comfort at this time.
