James "Jim" Marshall Lane

He was preceded in death by his father Newton N. Lane and his mother Ida Moon Lane and his son Gary Marshall Lane.

Jim was a long-time resident of Hixson. He retired in 1981 after 35 years of employment as General Manager with the National Life & Accident Insurance Company where he received numerous awards. He was a member of the Chattanooga Association of Life Underwriters where he served as a member of the board of directors. For several years he was a member of the Chattanooga General Agents & Managers Association where he served as president for two terms.

Jim was an active and committed member of his Southern Baptist Church family. As an active deacon, he assisted in fund raising efforts for church campus improvements for several churches in Hamilton County. He was a present member of Hixson First Baptist Church.

For nearly 71 years Jim was married to his beloved and loving wife Catherine A. Lane. He is survived by his son Charles Ed (Billie) Lane, Sr. and his daughter Judith L. Gray. He had four grandsons: Don A. (Janye) Gray, Jr., Troy S. Gray, Tim D. (Cindy) Gray and Charles E. (Kendall) Lane, Jr. He was also the great grandfather of Lucas and Jacob Gray, Sebastian Gray and Charles E. Lane, III.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the North Chapel.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Wood and Rev. Terry Shannon officiating.

The family also wishes to thank the staff and nurses at The Bridge, South Pittsburg, TN for their compassionate care during his illness.
