Jim was born in Dayton, Tennessee to the late B. Frank Cofer and Ann Williamson Cofer. He graduated from Soddy Daisy High School, the University of the South where he was proud to play on one of two football teams that went undefeated at Sewanee, and received his Dental Degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Dentistry. Jim practiced Dentistry for over 38 years in the Hixson area. He was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church. Jim was an avid golfer, hunter and loved fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his son and being involved with his grandchildren. In his later years he enjoyed playing golf with his wife and buddies at Creeks Bend Golf Club. His happy place was golfing with his family and friends in Sandestin, Florida.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William David Cofer.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, his adoring wife of 53 years, Sylvia M. Cofer; son, Jimmy (Heidi) Cofer; grandson, Trace Cofer and granddaughter, Keatyn Cofer; sisters-in law and brothers-in-law, Sheila and Rick Ingram and Sandi and Alex Nelson; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 (noon) to 2 pm on Saturday, July 15, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A private family burial will be held in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
