Correne M. Poe

Correne was born in Soddy, Tennessee on June 8, 1929. She attended Soddy Daisy High School. In her younger years she was employed as fountain manager of Mclellan's department store in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She left her employment at Mclellan's when she married Roland G. Poe of Daisy, TN and settled into a life as homemaker, and loving wife and mother. Correne was saved and baptized in her teenage years and became a member of Soddy First Baptist Church. After marriage she transferred her membership to Daisy United Methodist Church where she retained membership for the remainder of her life. Correne served many years as chairperson over bereaved families as well as being in charge of the kitchen for vacation bible school at Daisy Methodist. She was well known for her culinary skills, especially pies, cakes and candies. Correne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Correne was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Flossie McClure, husband Roland G. Poe, brothers James R. McClure, J.C. McClure, Thomas McClure and Lamar McClure, as well as sisters Ovalene McClure and Martha Jo McClure Derrick.

Correne is survived by son Rohn (Lora) Poe, daughter Kimberly Poe (Richard) Gray, grandchildren Landon (Andrea) Gray, Sarah Poe, Preston Poe, great-grandchildren Henry Gray, Reuben Gray and Roger Gray as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Daisy United Methodist Church, 9508 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN on Wednesday December 6th from Noon till 2 pm with a celebration of life to follow officiated by Reverend Alan Stewart. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Daisy United Methodist Church or the Soddy Daisy Food bank.

Correne McClure Poe was born on June 8, 1929 in Soddy Tennessee. She inherited her spunky personality from both her mother, Flossie McClure, who was half Cherokee, and her father Tom McClure, who was Irish. She was the fifth of seven children, raised in Baptist faith, and baptized at 17 in Soddy Creek by her Uncle Tom Dodd. She developed a strong sense of faith while watching her mother wash feet and shout in her childhood church. She applied these lessons of service throughout her life. She served as chairperson over bereaved families and for many years was in charge of the kitchen during vacation bible school at Daisy Methodist Church. Faith, love, family, and hard work made her into the lady she became.

As a young woman she ventured into the workforce and landed a job at Mclellan's department store as fountain manager. She thought this would be her life, but as fate would have it, while at the orange bar restaurant, a tall handsome man walked in. Their eyes locked and the courtship began. Soon, love was in the stars. That tall handsome man swept her off her feet and she became Mrs. Roland Poe. She settled into a life she had never known with the man of her dreams. She became a member of Daisy United Methodist Church alongside her husband.

Motherhood came quickly with the birth of a baby boy, Rohn Dewitt, then a couple of years later a beautiful baby girl, Kimberly Jo. The family was complete, she was blessed.

As the years passed, she became famous for her delicious meals, fudge, cakes, pies and other treats. She had a wonderful loving and forgiving heart which always gave her peace.

Her life was rich with love and happiness and a marriage that stood the test of time. When she was 53, she lost the love of her life. Her heart was devoted to her life partner and now they are re-united in paradise.

Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was 62 when her first grandchild, Landon Gray, was born. When she was 68, she was blessed with a granddaughter, Sarah Poe. Three years later another grandson, Preston Poe was born. With his birth, came the hope of another generation of Poes.

Time marched on and Landon married his high school sweetheart, Andrea Griggs. Their union gave her three beautiful great-grandsons, Henry, Reuben and Roger Gray. This added a new level of happiness to her latter years. Before her passing she stated that she has been blessed beyond measure and that her blessings come from Christ alone. Her prayer was always "Thank you Lord for my life and how I chose to live it".
