Alan Cooper Jr.

George Alan Cooper Jr (Alan), beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, embraced his Heavenly Father and received his crown of righteousness on December 26, 2022 after fighting an incredible battle and keeping his unwavering faith here on this earth.

In his 50 years (born September 23, 1972), the blessings from knowing and loving Alan were innumerable. However God has interwoven the fabric of your life with his, we know you have been forever changed. Alan had so many wonderful character traits, but above all, he wanted his life to reflect his Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a man of his word, a friend to all, and a lover of history and of sports (especially the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Chargers and the Chattanooga Mocs). He was rock solid in his beliefs and his love for his family.

He is survived by his bride, Dr. Laura Asbury Cooper; his daughters Kate and Mattie; his sons Landon and Cooper Asbury; his parents, George and Pat Cooper; his brother Scott (Molly) Cooper and their daughters Clarke, Austin, and Sidney; his father in law Barry Goss; his brother in law Jason Goss; his best friend/cousin Kate Griffith, and numerous loved aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a graduate of The McCallie School in 1991, and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1996. He was a brother and past president of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at UTC. He was an employee of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee for over 15 years as a provider communication specialist. Prior to BlueCross he worked in sports information management at Mississippi State University, and at his alma matter UTC. He also enjoyed working for the American Junior Golf Association and being a member of the board at Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga Military Park.

Alan was a football official (umpire) with the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association for over 25 years and with the South Atlantic Conference for seven years. Some of his other numerous interests included family genealogy, dad jokes, Blue Angels air shows, and adventures with family and friends (always with history trivia thrown in).

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brainerd United Methodist Church on Saturday December 31, 2022. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon with a service to follow at 2:00pm, and a graveside memorial at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s honor can be made to National Park Partners – Friends of the Park, Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, and a UTC scholarship fund to be established in Alan’s name.
