Virginia "Ginnie" Lazar

Virginia Lazar, age 91, of Highland, affectionately known as “Grandma Ginnie” or “Everybody’s Cookie Lady”, was born November 19, 1930 in Detroit, and passed away August 29, 2022 in White Lake. Loving mother of Ric (Mary) Lazar, Debbie Sanders, and Lori (Michael) Morley. Cherished grandmother of Lance (Sarah) Sanders, Alyssa (Justin) Lazar, Nicole (AJ) Lazar, Jesika (Nate) Adams, Lauren (Thomas) Niederhiser, Christopher Morley, and Jack Morley. Treasured great-grandmother of Uma, Ani, Teo, Eli, Gabriel, Colm, Silas, Eli, Lila, and Kit.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Alice Dewar; her loving husband, Emil Dan Lazar; her son, Ronald Lazar; her son-in-law, Darryl Sanders; and her sisters: Patricia (Les) Stelzer, Betty (Bart) Ley, and Fran (Dick) Briggs.

Virginia worked as an assistant manager of the First of America Bank in Milford for many years. Virginia was a devoted member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Hartland. In her free time, Virginia could always be found reading a good book, completing a puzzle, or working on one of her sewing projects, including her iconic “Granny Bags” that she enjoyed making for others. Virginia was an avid baker; she loved baking her famous oatmeal craisin “Killer Cookies” best of all! Virginia was known to many as a “tough old broad,” or T.O.B. for short. She was even once recognized by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department for her bravery. She loved a good party, and was instrumental in establishing the Axford Acres neighborhood luaus and corn roasts. Staying active was very important to Virginia. She spent much of her free time working in her yard, boating, jet skiing, and even teaching people to waterski! She was a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the All Saints Lutheran Church, 12701 W. Highland Road, Hartland. Virginia's family will receive visitors at the Church on Saturday from 12:00pm until the time of Service at 1:00pm, with a luncheon to follow.
