Nita Louise Dickens Lackey passed away July 15, 2014. Ms. Lackey was born in High Point, North Carolina on December 20, 1925. She was the daughter of Mabe and Flora Dickens. She graduated from Allen Jay High School and after raising her family she went back to school and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree.
Ms. Lackey is survived by two sons, Lenard D. Lackey, Jr. and wife Peggy of Danville, Virginia and Joseph L. Lackey and wife Judy of Farmville, Virginia; three grandchildren: Jennifer J. Newnam and husband Scott of Morrisville, North Carolina, Lenard D. Lackey III and wife Jaime of Holly Springs, North Carolina and Joseph L. Lackey II and wife Sarah of Princeton, West Virginia. Ms. Lackey has five great grandchildren: Mackenzie Newnam, Jackson Newnam, Ryan Newnam, Maddux Lackey, and Lenard Lackey IV. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents two brothers predeceased Ms. Lackey: Bill Dickens and Jack Dickens and a sister Ruby Edwards.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, Virginia for their compassionate and professional care of Ms. Lackey during her last years of life.
A private funeral service will be held at the Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point.
