Mrs. Kay Idol Kelly, age 69, passed away Feb. 9th at the Hospice Home in High Point surrounded by loved ones, while lifted in prayers. Kay was born in High Point on May 7, 1941 to Vernon Welch and Margaret Frances Marley Idol, Jr. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren and had a wonderful circle of loving friends. Kay held a special place in her heart for all God’s small creatures. She loved her kitties Grace and Gizmo and was an avid bird watcher. She was employed in the furniture industry and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point where it brought Kay much joy to sing in the choir. Before her illness, she had served in the church as a deacon and a Stephen Minister. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Kelly, III on December 3, 1986.
Surviving are her children: James Vernon Straka and wife Terri of Hickory; Kathryn Layne Straka of Greensboro, and George R. “Chip” Straka of High Point. Kay has one sister, Ann Idol Koontz of Calabash, NC and two grandchildren; Weston James Straka and Kelli Maureen Straka. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 13th at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Broman-Fulks officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 918 N. Main Street, High Point, NC 27262 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff of Hospice Home at High Point for their special care.
