Our Mom,Jane Cameron Sizemore, passed from this life to the
next on August 7, 2011 at River Landing. She was 94, a believer in and
follower of Jesus. She is joined fully in His life now.
Mom was born in Rochester, New York on July 1,1917. She grew
up there with her late younger brother, Dr. Donald Cameron, and her
adopted sister, the late Helen Burness. She graduated from Keuka
college in upstate New York and later married our Dad, the late Frank
Julian Sizemore,Jr. of High Point, who was serving in the Navy bomb
disposal squad in World War II. She birthed three baby boomers,Lynne
Cameron(1944), Frank Julian III(Trip)(1946) and Donald
Farish(Don)(1952). Lynne lives in Raleigh, Trip in Greensboro, and Don
in Lexington, Kentucky.
To say Mom lived an active life is an understatement. Besides
full time mothering, she was active at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church
all her life, serving with special interest in the Youth programs and
Sunday School administration. Her loyalty and service to friends was
unmatched. She always put an emphasis also on befriending the
individual wayfarer, welcoming exchange students, traveling authors and
salesmen into her home. She knew no barrier of faith, race or
station, enjoying God's creation in each one. She also had an enduring
interest in the arts, loving the symphonies, lectures, operas and theatre which were so much a part of her life in High Point. She and Dad passed onto their children the love of great literature and the arts. Garden clubs, book clubs, the Junior League, Emerywood Country Club, the High Point Museum, the Shakespeare Festival, and Bible Study Fellowship all benefited, along with many other non-profits, from her zeal for participation and volunteerism. She was also a constant presence in the schools as a substitute teacher which fulfilled another of her passions for being around and helping young people.
She loved the outdoors, especially lakes ,oceans and trails.
She and Dad shared a passion for tennis and she was an avid walker.
She enjoyed the variety in world cuisines as well as the hot dog in
the form a New York white hot piled high with onions, mustard, pickle
relish and coleslaw. She meticulously watched her weight so that she
could eat whatever she wanted. Later in life, she partnered with Dad in furniture sales, enjoying the business end and travel. In fact, seeing
the world was a passion and that desire certainly gained a life in
Lynne. Mom pushed Dad to take a two month family cross country driving
tour when we were young which we have never forgotten. She had vision
and energy in every facet of life and tremendous involvement in the
lives of her eight grandchildren, engaging them in dramas, reading and
play from the earliest possible time. She was always ready to help her
daughters-in law with the kids, never putting her own convenience
first. She looked and lived ten years younger than her actual age.
She spent the last decade of her life first at The
Presbyterian Home of High Point and then at River Landing. Due to
short term memory loss, she spent the last years in the Memory Care
section of River Landing, but as Dorothea and the others who cared for
her will attest, she was always ready for the next activity and
continued her walking regimen. They all became friends of hers.
Blessedly, she always recognized and communicated with us right up to
her death.
Her faith in Jesus,as the Christ, was a constant throughout
her life and her most important generational legacy. She is survived
by her three children, her daughters-in-law Laura Frazier Sizemore of
Greensboro and Carolyn Hawthorne Sizemore of Lexington,Kentucky. Her
eight grand children, Mrs. Frazier Buck, Anna Laura Sizemore, Frank
Julian Sizemore IV, Jane Cameron Sizemore, Mrs. Mary Grace Rivera, all
of Greensboro; Seth Hawthorne Sizemore, Danielle Stembridge Sizemore
and Isaac Cameron Sizemore, all of Lexington,Kentucky; her two great
grandchildren, Kason Alexander Rivera and Aliyah Grace Rivera of
Greensboro; two nephews, Donald Cameron, of Providence Rhode Island,
and Jeffrey Cameron of Wilmington,North Carolina.
Memorials may be sent to: Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, High
Point Community Concert, or N.C. Shakespeare Festival.
A Memorial service will be held at River Landing in the Multi Purpose Room on Thursday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. officiated by the Reverend Steve Lynam.
