Howard Phillip (Bud) Coleman of Jamestown, NC passed away on February 1st at the Hospice of the Piedmont House in High Point, NC. He was born in Guilford County on July 31, 1932, the son of William Victor and Thelma Howard Coleman. He retired in 2000 from Harrison & Wright Utility Contractors of Charlotte, NC after 50 years as an Assistant Vice President and Operations Manager. He continued to work as a consultant on engineering projects until 2011.
Bud was a lifelong member of Oakdale United Methodist Church. He served as Lay Speaker, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Official Board and chairman of many other committees. Bud also served as a Youth Director and Sunday School Teacher for several years.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Thurman Coleman and Clyde Coleman, and three sisters, Hope C. Hussey, Jeanette C. Hartis, and Lois C. Kelley. He is survived by his wife, Margie Cruthis Coleman of the home, his son, Dr. Howard (Buddy) Coleman and his wife Catherine Coleman of Wilmington, NC, a loving daughter, Kathy Coleman of Jamestown, NC, two very special grandsons, Matthew Coleman of Wilmington and Chapel Hill, NC, and Adam Coleman of Wilmington, NC, a special sister-in-law, Shirley Cruthis Riley of Thomasville, NC, one brother-in-law, Donald Cruthis and his wife, Lois, of Archdale, NC, and a niece, Teresa J. Langford, of New Mexico.
Sechrest Funeral Home on East Lexington Avenue in High Point is assisting the family. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 6th in the Chapel at Sechrest and will be officiated by the Reverend Tony Cruthis. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral from 12:45 to 1:45. Entombment will follow the service at the Guilford Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be nephews Donald Cruthis, Larry Cruthis, Richard Cruthis, George Bowen, Michael Bowen, and Wayne Goins. Visitors are welcome at the home on 3030 Sherrill Avenue in Jamestown, NC after the graveside service.
