HICKORY – Walter Ray Sain, 84 of Hickory passed away on October 7, 2022.
Born on May 9, 1938 in Cleveland County, he was the youngest and last child of the late Charles E. and Leila Pruette Sain. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving as a training instructor at 1st Division Fort Riley, KS and Fort Irwin, CA. Ray worked at Superior Cable, furniture and barbered at Villa Park in Conover. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, gardening, fishing, traveling with Harold and Judy Brittain and the late Alton and Revonda Heavner, and with the Council of Aging.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Nellie Sain, Minnie Sain, Mary Lail, Lois Cooke, Fred, Howard, Everette, Billy, Avery, and Forrest Sain.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Patricia Hollar Sain; nephews, Evan Lail, Carrol Cooke, Eddie Sain, Steve Sain, Michael Sain, Robert Ward, Joey Ward, Jeff Ward; nieces, Ann Early, Catherine Pitts, Joyce Phillips, Patsy Thornton, Hazel Sain, Jeanette Sweat, Melody Pugh, Shellie Alfaro, Dawn Heller, Donnetta Spencer, Donna Shuford; and numerous other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Sain officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior from 1 PM -1:45 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to The Council on Aging or Carolina Caring.
