Born April 4th, 1937, in Catawba County. She was the daughter of Ezra Lafone and Nell Frye Stafford.
Ruth was the loving wife of Jackie H. Dietz who preceded her in death March 30, 2004.
She was a longtime member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA on Springs Road.
Ruth was a devout Christian and regularly active in Church. She enjoyed the camaraderie of faith, and her beautiful voice was always singing along with the spiritual hymns.
She enjoyed her life as a career homemaker along with various business employments.
She enjoyed travelling and being with all her family members.
Survivors include: two daughters Sherree Mitchum of Castlerock, CO, and Debbie Koski and her husband Rich of Laytonsville, MD. Three Grandsons: Justin Collins and his wife Jessica of Urbana, MD; Clay Koski of Ruther Glen, VA; Matthew Mitchum of Castle Rock, CO. One Great Grand Daughter Caylee Collins and one Great Grandson Trevor Collins. Her brother Tony Lafone and his wife Kay of Hickory, NC. Two nieces: Tiffani Bolick and her husband Andy of Hickory, NC; Brandi McKinney and her husband Mike of Greensboro, NC. Two great nieces: Mary Kay McKinney and Christina Paige McKinney.
Preceding her in death was her nephew Chris Lafone and her son-in-law Mark Mitchum.
The ceremony of life will be delivered by Pastor Terri Landers at St Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA, 2304 Springs Road NE, Thursday April 25th at 2:00 pm.
Family Visitation will be held at Hickory Funeral Home, 1031 11th Avenue Blvd SE , Hickory, NC 28602 on April 24th from 5:30 until 7:30PM.
Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rich Koski, Matthew Mitchum, Justin Collins, Clay Koski, Andy Bolick,
Mike McKinney, Terry Hollar, and Billy Beard.
