Pat was a trailblazer and absolutely loved to stand out with her clothing. She was the first woman in her school to wear pants. In her day, that was a huge scandal. That desire to stand out never faded. Her latest obsession was a set of neon-colored sneakers that garnered positive attention wherever she went. She would often hear, “Here comes the lady with the bright shoes. What color does she have on today?” She loved being the talk of the church. It was so much fun to see what outfit mom would come up with next!
Her family refers to her as a fierce Catholic. She never wanted to miss a mass and did not miss an opportunity to try to win folks over to Christ. Even in her last days, she was asking all her nurses if they went to church and telling them about the amazing love of God.
Pat had a fun side that not everyone got to see. She loved to poke fun and make us all laugh. She never took herself too seriously and loved it when people came back at her.
Up to the end she was her true self. Her last words were jabs at her family that cannot be printed here. She truly kept us laughing until the end.
The family will hold receiving at 10:30 and an 11:00 memorial service for Pat at Hickory Funeral Home, Thursday, October 10, 2024.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
