Patricia Ann Ikerd Capps, 73, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Novant Health in Winston-Salem, NC with her daughters by her side. Patricia was born May 11, 1944 in Newton, NC to the late William Henry Ikerd and Novella Katherine Stamey Ikerd.
Pat enjoyed 20 years travelling with her husband as he served in the US Army, settling with her family in Hickory, NC, upon his retirement. Pat received her CNA II certification from CVCC. She then devoted her work life to helping others, working at Habitat for Humanity the NC Lutheran Home, The Abernathy Center, and as a private duty nurse. Not only did Pat take loving care of her own family, she kept in touch with families of patients she had cared for, making them part of her extended family. Pat was most well-known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and was a loyal member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Theron Kingsel “T.K.” Capps, Jr., and brothers, Thomas Icard and Jack Icard and is survived by daughters, Deborah Bell and husband Roger of Clemmons, NC and Trina Hoyle and husband, Hans of Hickory; grandchildren, Haley Parham, Erin Bell, Kayla Hoyle and Dane Hoyle; great-grandchildren, Veda Hoyle and Gauge Scronce; sisters, Jeanette Hefner of Hickory and Doris Bullard and husband Danny of Newton; brother, Ted Icard of Conover; sisters-in-law Jean Orr, Nancy Holsclaw and Sandra Huff and husband Troy; and many special nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Harris of Graystone Eyecare, Dr. Weinberg of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, the doctors and staff of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, particularly Dr. Janjua and the Palliative Care Department, for their exceptional care and Pastor Bob Stevens and wife Laurie, and Pastor Mark Seaman for their continual support.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with Rev. Mark Seaman officiating. An inurnment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
