Conover - Johnnie Jeannette Matthews Barger, 86 of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5th, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on January 13th, 1937, in Catawba County, she was a compassionate, giving and dedicated sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the daughter of the late John Lawrence and Pauline Elizabeth Deal Matthews.
Jeannette enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping, watching the Atlanta Braves, and listening to old time country music. She also loved traveling to Nashville and Gatlinburg, as well as, Myrtle Beach. She was loved by her family and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Jeannette is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard Blain Barger, and two brothers, Everette Mathews and Richard Matthews.
Those left to cherish her memory include sons Ricky Barger of Charlotte and Danny Barger of Lenoir; brother Eddie Matthews of Hiddenite; granddaughters Jennifer Barger of Hudson and Samantha Barger of Lenoir; great grandsons Bradley Barger, Andrew Barger and Mason Kidd; and great granddaughter Chloe Kidd.
The family would like to thank Martha Goodman, Dr. Richard Orlowski and the rest of the staff at Carolina Oncology Specialists and the wonderful nurses and staff at Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Infusion Center for their care and comfort.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 2 pm with Rev. Sandi Hood officiating. Burial will follow the service at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace United Church of Christ at 2230 29th Ave. Dr. NE, Hickory, NC 28601 in Jeannette’s name.
