Jim was born August 31, 1932 in Caldwell Co. to the late Robert Haywood and Virginia Suddreth Setzer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Scott E. Setzer, a daughter, Charlene M. Maxwell, a sister, Della Mae Harris and brothers: Woodrow, Millard, Justin, Bob and Norris “Jr” Setzer.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired salesman for Berndt’s Army-Navy, past commander for the American Legion Post #48 and a member of the 40/8 of the American Legion. He volunteered a lot of time to the American Legion by calling bingo, in charge of Easter Egg Hunt for children and also was sports comminatory for baseball at the Henkle-Alley field
Surviving are his wife, Eva Goins Setzer of the home, daughters: Tressa Setzer Cline and husband, Cecil of Hickory, Elissa Mitchell and Cheryl M. Clark and husband, Dwayne all of Hickory, son: Bob Setzer and wife, Nancy of Newton, sisters: Sally Hayes of Lenoir and Ruby Livingston of Taylorsville, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, May 5, at 11:00 AM at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Talmadge Cheek officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park with graveside honors being conducted by American Legion Post #48.
