Frank Eugene Hedrick, 95, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Catawba Valley Assisted Living in Claremont. Born December 12, 1928 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late David Wilson Hedrick and Vertie Louella Lail Hedrick. A member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church (ELCA), he was a retired business owner in masonary construction.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wade Hedrick and Joe Hedrick; sister, Shirley Ratchford; brother-in-law, Paul Ratchford; and sisters-in-law, Sunny Hedrick and Peggy Hedrick.
Frank is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Powell Hedrick; daughters, Darlene Mitchell and husband Kavin and Lisa Bumgarner and husband Chris; brother, Hal Hedrick; sister-in-law, Pat Hedrick; grandchildren, Casey Bumgarner and wife Stacey, Reed Bumgarner and wife Amanda and Cody Mitchell and wife Kristi; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kyleigh, Macy, Elise, Kindle and Knox; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Family came first for Frank. He always made sure that his family had everything they needed. He and Pat helped their daughters and families build their homes.
Frank’s greatest joy in life was being a grandfather to his three grandsons and he enjoyed so many precious moments watching them grow and become fine young men and start their families. He and Pat loved taking them camping, hiking, and golfing and watching them play sports. To his grandsons, he will always live in their hearts as PawPaw Frank”.
Frank was a graduate of St. Stephens High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army Corp of Engineers and was stationed in Greenland. While in the Army, he and Pat were married. They came back to Hickory and started their family.
Frank was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA in Hickory, NC. He and wife, Pat served as Sunday School teachers in their younger years. He feared and loved the Heavenly Father and carried the Heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit with him in his heart throughout his life.
Frank was an avid golfer most of his life. He loved being outdoors and there was nothing he liked better than playing a great game of golf. In his later years, Pat started to play golf with him and they played many games together along with his brother Joe and his wife, Pat. He also taught his grandsons how to play golf and enjoyed those times spent with them.
Frank Hedrick was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law and his family was truly blessed to have him in their lives for as long as they have lived. Thank goodness there are so many wonderful memories and stories they will be able to share for the rest of their lives and pass on to the next generation. His love and generosity for his family will comfort them and give them peace forever.
His wife, Pat Hedrick is the “Love of His Life” and together they built a strong foundation for his family. Pat will miss him terribly along with his daughters and their families. His words of wisdom to his family were “never give up” and “always have hope” and to pray in happy times as well as times of trouble and sorrow.
His family will always remember his words of wisdom that he would say each time they were leaving from a visit with he and Pat. Frank would say, “I Love You and Be Careful Going Home”.
With All Our Love and Gratitude, Dad
Your loving wife Pat,
