David Clay Johnson

He was born on April 10, 1950 to the late John and Myrtle Munday Johnson in Ashe County. David enjoyed fishing and drag racing. He was a proud owner of two drag racing vehicles. David also enjoyed congregating at the Wycoff Garage.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Johnson and Joe Johnson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Sherry Childers Johnson of the home; sons, Rodney Lee Johnson of Granite Falls, Chad Johnson (Leizel) of Connelly Springs, Brian Johnson (Junior) of Connelly Springs; grandchildren he dearly loved, Heather Slattery, Addison Dunbar, Destiny Johnson, Josh Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Nikola Johnson; great grandchildren, Ruby Slattery, Bradley Johnson; brothers, Glenn Johnson, Eddie Johnson; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Fresenius Kidney Care & Davita Dialysis of Hickory, for their excellent care of David the past 22 years.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Dale Leonhardt, Rev. Tony Childers and Rev. Junior Seatz will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
