Betty Jo Whitener

HICKORY----Betty Jo Whitener, 83, passed away May 11, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice.Betty Jo was born March 3, 1932 in Catawba Co. to the late Bert Michael and Margie Bryte Whitener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half sisters, Sue Amy Good and Pauline Buchanan and a sister-in-law, Joann Whitener. She was a member of Sardis Lutheran Church and retired from Brian Center in the dietary dept and also worked for Fresh Air Super Market for many years.Surviving is a sister, Norma Jean Weaver of Hickory; brothers, Billy W. Whitener and wife, Mae of Hickory, Alfred L. Whitener of Hickory and Charles Whitener and wife, Betty of Hickory; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Leevada Wood of Hickory.Services will be Wednesday, May 13, at 3:00 P. M. at Sardis Lutheran Church with Rev. C. Pierson Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, from 1:45 – 2:45 P.M. at Sardis Lutheran Church.Memorials may be made to Sardis Lutheran Church, 6103 W NC 10 Hwy, Hickory, N.
