Bobbie was born November 4, 1944 in Rutherfordton, NC to Bernice Case Reece and the late William “Bill” Kenneth Reece. At the time of her birth, her father was away in Europe soldiering with Patton’s 3rd Army during World War II. She grew up in the Ruth community and graduated from Rutherfordton-Spindale Central High School. She married her high school sweetheart, William Whiteside and had two children. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she also held several office jobs around Hickory, NC. In 1970, at age 25, Bobbie became secretary and treasurer of Whiteside Machine and Repair Company when her husband started the business in the basement of their home. She was a most integral part of Whiteside Machine for over thirty years until sidelined by health issues. She also possessed a life-long love for children, and enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, William Whiteside of the home; a daughter, Lori Jean Whiteside Brown and husband, Stafford of Hickory; a son, Clark Whiteside and wife, Alisa of Conover; six grandchildren: Amanda, Monica and David Garrett; Zeb, Zack and Zeke Whiteside; as well as one great-granddaughter, Gabriela Garrett-Ventura.
In addition to her mother, Bobbie is also survived by 2 sisters, Brenda Neal of Hickory and Cathy Bowman of Hickory; 2 brothers, Kenneth Reece of Troutman and Tom Reece of Hickory, 2 brothers-in-law, Mack Whiteside of Hudson and Michael Whiteside of Conover; twelve nieces and nephews; and seventeen great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, January 9, 2014 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm prior to the service at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.
