Charlotte C. Johnson

Charlotte Carol “Char” Johnson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully at Loma Linda Hospital on January 10, 2022 at age 86.

Charlotte is survived by sons David Robert and Gregory Jay; grandchildren Heather, Mindy, Kelli, Malory, Christopher, Jennifer and Nikki; great grandchildren Caleb, Hannah, Savanna, Dixie, Asher, Holley, Liliya, Iris, Faith, Ozzie, Nathan, Vincent, Wyatt and her beloved little Chewy.

Charlotte was predeceased by her loving Husband David in 1994; Brothers Hugh, Kenneth and Steve; Sisters Edith, Mary, Hazel, Myra, Betty and Christy.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Hugh and Delia Campbell on March 26, 1935. Charlotte was the youngest and last surviving of ten children. Charlotte’s stories of growing up on a small farm in rural Minnesota and her times at the lake house on Lake George were colorful and captivating. From the single horse that she had to share with her bratty brother Steve, to assembling May Day baskets and hiding them on neighbor’s porches with big sister Christy; it was clear she cherished her childhood.

She married David Leland Johnson in 1954 shortly after he returned from the Korean War where he served in the Navy. A couple years later they packed up and moved to California.

As the Johnson family planted roots in So Cal, Charlotte began the task of raising a family. She became active in the kids community organized sports and scouting. She was a Cub Scout den mother, snack bar volunteer, school cafeteria server and even played in a “Powder Puff” football game. As more of the Campbell Clan migrated to California, Charlotte enjoyed time with family at holiday gatherings, bowling leagues and camping at places like the Salton Sea.

As the family grew and went out on their own, Dave and Char moved to the High Desert. Victorville would be their new home and Char would set out on new adventures. She began to paint beautiful landscapes, craft Christmas villages and crochet. She was a longtime member of TOPS and enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with her friends. The highlight of her new world was the friends and fellowship she found in her new church, The First Assembly of God. Charlotte loved her time as a choir member and working in the “Feed My Sheep” food pantry.

Charlotte lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and community volunteer. She loved to cook, travel and go on weekly outings with her friends. But most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Viewing ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God, 15260 Nisqualli Rd, Victorville, CA 92395. A memorial service and reception will be held immediately following. Burial will take place the following Tuesday, February 8th at 11:30 a.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside CA 92518.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the “Feed My Sheep” food pantry at the First Assembly of God in Victorville.
