William "Billy" Anthony Blocker

William Anthony "Billy" Blocker, age 73, of North Las Vegas, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1949, at Provident Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas & Gussie M. (Hart) Blocker.

William Blocker attended the Lutheran church as a young man and accepted Christ as his savior. Throughout his adult life he was a spiritual man and attended Canyon Ridge Christian Church at the time of his passing.

After graduating from Harlan High School in Chicago, Illinois, William worked for the United States Postal Service. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969. While stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, he met Vanessa E. Hamilton and they wed on November 20, 1971. After separating from the U.S. Air Force in 1973, he gained employment with The Okonite Cable Company in Santa Maria, California. During this time, he attended Allan Hancock Community College where he earned two associate degrees, one in Arts and one in Business Administration. In December of 1976, they welcomed a beautiful daughter. In 1982, he joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve and retired in 2003 with 24 years, 11 months and 12 days of service. William also retired from The Okonite Cable Company in 2003 after 29 years of service. In 2013, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to fulfill his retirement dreams.

William was a very special soul. He had a caring and kind personality and was known for his ability to always lend a helpful hand. You could find him most often in a bowling alley, coaching a sports team, at some sporting event, watching a movie, or walking his fur children in the park. Billy was the life of the party and lived life to the fullest.

Billy touched many lives with his generous soul and caring heart. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Vanessa E. Hamilton; his common-law wife, Carolyn M. Washington; his parents: Thomas & Gussie M. (Hart) Blocker; his siblings: Paula L. Johnson, LaVera A. Tuck, Eugene F. Blocker, Randolph S. Blocker Sr., Ida Marie Blocker; his brother-in-law, John H. Tuck; and his sister-in-law, Betty J. Thomas. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters: Carla R. Washington and Aisha C. Merritt; his grandchildren: Morgan M. Washington, Michael D. Sturtevant, Natazsha E. Merritt and Allen P. Merritt Jr; his two great grandchildren: Julian M. Sturtevant and Olivia E. Marshall; his siblings: Marilyn C. Bryant, Judith A. Blocker, Maurice L. Blocker; sister-in-law, Daisy M. Blocker; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, great great-nephews and great great-nieces as well as a host of very close friends he called family.

A visitation for William will be held Monday, September 25, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Funeral services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 9:20 AM to 9:50 AM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
