Paul John Wine

Paul Wine, 88, a retired social worker, passed away at Siena Hospital of heart failure on 1-26-23. He was born in Chicago to immigrant parents, John and Frances. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. Mary, Joe, and Therese all predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; 6 nieces and nephews: Marilyn, Ray, Jim, Janet, Keri,and Kris; and 2 cousins, Ed and Dolores. He was strong in his Catholic faith, proud of his Croatian-Slovenian heritage, and was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer. "I can fix that" was his mantra.

Visitation will be at 4:00PM. February 12 at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, Funeral Mass will be at 9 A.M. February 13 at St.Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Henderson with burial following in the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers a donation to St. Peter the Apostle Church, Catholic Charities or your favorite charity would be appreciated.

Paul was educated at Sacred Heart elementary school, Chicago Vocational School, and DePaul University. He earned his MSW at the University of Utah. In the Army he served as a clerk in a military hospital in Korea. As a young man he had many jobs. He worked in roofing. He tried selling Electrolux vacuums, but preferred selling people parts to fix the ones they already owned. He worked in the shipyards in various jobs. He was very proud of the fact that he was involved with the restoring of The captured German U505 submarine that is today still in the Chicago museum of science and industry. When he was out of a job, his cousin suggested Cook County Welfare, and that led to his life time work in social work. After getting his MSW, he worked in mental health in California and retired to Henderson. He was proud of his life-size Nativity set that was displayed for more than 2 decades on the front lawn. He and Mary traveled a lot, mostly in the western states. He was very strong in his beliefs. He will be missed.
