Adrian "Jack" Eugene Hurley, age 92, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He was born July 23, 1930 in Kimball, West Virginia to his parents Blane Monroe Hurley and Clara Louise (Wilhelm) Hurley. Jack was raised in Welch, West Virginia, where he loved exploring the outdoors, hanging out with his friends, and participating in Boy Scouts. In high school, he participated in Basketball, and was a Drum Major for the marching band. Jack graduated from Welch High School in 1950 and went on to continue his education at Duke University in North Carolina.
Jack's time at Duke was short lived as he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950. He served in the 45th Infantry from 1950 to 1953; his first two years in Korea during the war. Jack served his country honorably, obtaining the rank of Private First Class and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 bronze service star, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
On November 21, 1953, Jack's life would change forever, as he married his Soulmate and love of his life, Gloria Ilene Pearsall. The couple were married at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio; where they would embarq on a journey that would span over the next 64 years. The couple were blessed with nine children; and as their family grew; the couple were blessed with 47 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Jack was a strong and devoted husband and father. To support his family, he worked in Automotive Sales, and as a trucking manager at Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, Michigan. Through hard work and dedication, he received numerous Top Sales awards from Ford Motor Company 300/500 clubs. In 1990. after retiring from Ford, he relocated to Nevada, and went to work at the Auto Auction until he finally retired in 2008 to assist his wife with her medical needs.
Jack was also very active within his community where ever he lived. Jack was an active member of the local VFW post, served as Post Commander in Michigan, President of his children's Skating Club in the 70's, serving as President of the Tropicana Palms Mobile Home Resort; Part of the Bicentennial Parade in Michigan, and worked on the planning commission to organize the flood control that was enforced in the Henderson and Las Vegas Valley.
Jack was also a man of many hobbies and interests. In his younger years he enjoyed playing basketball, and the Marching band in high school. As an adult he enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball, shooting pool, playing shuffleboard, and he even participated in the senior olympics in 1995. He loved traveling with his wife and family, taking cruises, and camping. Jack was also a sports fan: watching Baseball, Football, and Hockey when he had the opportunity. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed the additional time he had to spend with his family, going out to eat, seeing shows at the casinos, and playing video poker.
All who knew him would agree that Jack was a pillar of the community, and a man of faith. He lived his life to the fullest and with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement . He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, and so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Jack Hurley did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched was given the chance to become a better person; he will truly be missed.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 64 years, Gloria. He is survived by his nine children: Raymond Hurley (Quyen), Garry Elrod (Debbie), William Elrod, David Hurley, Richard Hurley (Annette), Mark Hurley (Janie), Cynthia Ketterer, Strutt Hurley and Kathryn Hurley (Tom); 47 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Jack will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Jack will be laid to rest with Military honors at 12:00 PM at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
