Edna Sacun Cruz, age 69, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. She was born at home in Pulungmasle, Guagua Pampanga, Philippines to her parents: Felicidad Canlas Sacun and Prudencio Sacun. Edna was raised in Guagua Pampanga with her seven siblings. As a young girl, Edna was fascinated with the game of baseball. so when the opportunity came, she joined a Little League Softball team. She excelled at playing ball, continuing to play softball as she grew up at youth level, club level, traveling team level, and eventually it would lead to professional level. In her spare time, Edna loved to sing in the church choir, and spending time with her many friends. Her most memorable achievements included being recognized as a top soprano vocalist in the church choir.
Edna graduated from high school and went on to pursue her continuing education. She started attending Angeles University Foundation (AUF) to study nursing. She would take courses for three years before realizing that she wanted to become a teacher. At that time, Edna decided to switch career studies and began her studies at St. Michael Augustine College to work on her teaching credentials. While continuing her education, Edna continued to play competitive softball, and started developing her skills coaching softball.
In 1978, Edna's life would change forever, when she married Edwardo Cruz at a civil wedding at San Fernando Municipal, in San Fernando Pampanga in the Philippines. Together the couple would be blessed with three children. Edna would eventually leave school to raise her growing family, but never gave up on her love of softball. While raising her children and supporting them in their activities; Edna, continued to coach softball. She discovered early on that she was very good at it; so good, that she started coaching the Little League Softball World Series teams, while still playing softball herself.
In 2009, Edna would relocate to the United States. Utilizing the skills she learned many years ago, Edna would work as a caregiver. She was 100% devoted and dedicated to her patients. She worked for many years until retiring in 2023.
Edna was a loving mother and grandmother, who centered her life to her faith and her family. She was a life member of the United Methodist Church, where she spent many years singing in the choir. She loved spending time with her many friends and family. She was dedicated to her career and always working. In her spare time, she liked playing slots at her favorite casinos, resting, shopping, and supporting her favorite baseball team, the Giants. She loved traveling back to her home town in the Philippines, and taking trips to New York and Canada. Edna Sacun Cruz lived life to its fullest and made everyone around her happier just for knowing her. She will be remembered with a smile.
Edna was preceded in death by her mother, Felicidad Canlas Sacun. She is survived by her her father, Prudencio Sacun; her three children: Rosalinda Cruz-Guevarra (Glen), Harry Cruz (Marivic), and Eduardo Cruz, Jr. (Carol); her siblings: Amelia Smith, Alexander sacun, Aida Laxamana, Eddy “Bong” Sacun, Lilian Sacun, and Ruth Lintag; her grandchildren: Ross Guevarra, Gwyneth Guevarra, Avery Cruz, Aiden Cruz, Nicole Cruz, Karl Cruz, and Krishna Mae Cruz; and her former spouse, Edwardo Cruz;
A celebration of life for Edna will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
