She and her twin sister Dotta Thomas were born to parents Lottie Hays and Oliver Thomas on May 14th, 1934 at the family farmhouse in New Cambria, Missouri. Her family with 4 sisters and her brother then moved to Quincy, Illinois in 1938 where she and her twin sister Dotta were cheerleaders and baton twirlers. Upon graduation from Quincy High School Laura moved to Indiana where she met and married her first husband Robert Estes and had her only child Robert T Estes, Jr. in 1954.
Laura moved to Nevada in 1963; worked for many years for EG&G at the Nevada Test Site drilling holes for the nuclear tests that shook Las Vegas. She married her husband Gerald Smith of North Park, CO at The Little Church of the West and moved to Pioche, Nevada where they built their dream home before Jerry passed away and she moved to Boulder City. She was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Boulder City Republican Women, The Red Hat Society, and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with her family all over the southwest. She is survived by her son and daughter in law Robert and Joyce Estes Jr, Her Grandchildren Brandon and Emily Estes of Sedalia, CO; Step-son Dennis Smith, Morongo Valley, CA; Sister Viola Mink, St Louis, MO.; and Brother Larry Thomas, Atlanta, GA. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Smith, her sisters, Katherine Thomas, Joyce Wavering and Dotta
Thomas. She will be cremated by Palm Mortuary after a private service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Christ Lutheran Church.
