Connie Alanano, age 71, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Connie was born in Prineville, Oregon on November 7, 1952 to Coralee Vassar and Melvin A. Vassar. A Henderson native since 1961, Connie grew up with her two sisters Janet and Carolyn and attended Basic high school. Which her two sons later attended as well.
Through a series of events, Connie moved to New York City in 1974 at the age of 22, completely on her own, and without family. She quickly met a few friends, one of them who we referred to his aunt Franny, Francis Guarin, introduced her to the man who would become the love of her life; a Filipino sailor, Teddy Alanano.
It was love at first site for him, not so much for her, but very quickly his charm won her over and they were married on July 25, 1974. They loved the blissful married life for a few years and eventually welcomed their first child the summer of 1978. She named him after his father, Teddy. In 1979, they decided to move back to Henderson where all of her family could be of support in 1979. They were blessed with their second boy in 1983. Chris had a hard time coming into the world and had to spend his first few weeks in the NICU. Life for the Alanano’s was normal. Never too easy, but also never too hard!
Connie made many friends over the years whether it was through the various sports Teddy and Chris were involved in or the ample amount of time she spent playing bingo and gambling at the El Dorado with her mother and sisters. Later in life her passion became arts and crafts, in particular sewing. Much of her work can be found in her house and the many homes of her friends and family.
Nothing was more important to Connie than her 5 grandkids. She first became a grandma at the age of 50, and she got to experience that four more times. She loved them insanely and they were her world! Her and grandpa Teddy were active in every part of their lives in and loved being Grandma!
Connie was very proud that both of her sons had a measured share of success! Chris became an ER nurse and Teddy opened his own business. Throughout her life she has been “mom” to various people. So many have experienced her generosity. Whether it was a place to live, free meals or rides she gave freely of her time and treasure with no complaints And with nothing to gain, but love.
In true Connie fashion before she left this world she had one last cigarette. Surrounded by all her loved ones, her 2 dogs her, husband of 50 years, her kids and grandkids and friends….she passed away at noon on Thursday, February 1. She leaves a legacy of love and generosity as an example for all of us. To say that she’ll be missed is an insane understatement! For those that loved her, she will be a constant thought, and a joyful memory. In life, she was not rich in money, but she was extremely wealthy in experience, in loving others and being loved, and will never be forgotten!
Connie was preceded in death by her father, Melvin A. Vassar; her mother, Coralee Vassar; and her brother-in-law, Duane Hammond. She is survived by her husband, Teodulfo "Teddy" Alanano; her sons: Teddy Alanano Jr. (Jessica) and Christopher Alanano; her sisters: Janet Dye (Greg) and Carolyn Hammond; and her grandchildren: Teddy Alanano III, Sophia Alanano, Alena Alanano, Anthony Alanano, and Michael Alanano.
