Carl “Bud” Chris Scharfenberg Jr. peacefully passed away in his sleep on January 16th, 2020 at the age of 98. He was a longtime resident of Henderson, Nevada. His gentle and loving soul will be missed by many close friends and family; he was best known as Grandpa Bud.
Born in Estherville, Iowa in 1921, his family eventually made Deer River, Minnesota their home. Carl enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1947. He was an aircraft line mechanic, which helped foster his love for the aircraft industry while serving his country. Carl retired as an air craft mechanic, a job he really enjoyed, from Lockheed Martin the spring of 1990 and relocated several years later to Henderson, Nevada.
He was preceded by his parents Carl and Anna (Parker) Scharfenberg and two of his sisters, Margaret Ruby and Melba Miller. He shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Lois Mae “Guthrie” Scharfenberg until her death. He is also preceded by his two eldest sons, Carl Michael and Chris Edward.
He is survived by his youngest son John Scharfenberg, his son in-in-law Steve Burford, his granddaughter Cathryn Ann “Scharfenberg-Burford” Quinn and her husband Keith Quinn. Carl is also survived by his younger sister Valeta Michel (Snooky) and several family members including many nieces, nephews and their children.
At the request of his granddaughter, who was the joy of his life, in leu of flowers, please contribute to the Ronald McDonald House in your local area. Grandpa Bud always told Cathryn he liked their hamburgers the best and would often toss his change into the contribution container at his favorite McDonalds location in Henderson for the children and families in need.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday February 3rd, 2020 at 11:00am at Palm Mortuary at 800 S Boulder Highway, Henderson Nevada 89015.
Carl and his wife Lois’s final resting place will be at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada. Final resting service date and time will be announced.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmboulderhighway.com for the Scharfenberg family.
