Laurel Mae Long passed away on February 3, 2023 at the age of 89. She and her identical twin sister Carroll were born in Los Angeles in 1933 to Russell and Ruth Walters. She attended El Camino College and UCLA. She met the love of her life, Richard Charles Long, when working as a counselor at Tahquitz Meadows YMCA camp in Mountain Center, where he ran the horse stables. They were married in 1954, and initially ran the family stables business, before settling down in San Jacinto in 1962. They raised racing Quarter Horses, and Laurel worked her career for the Hemet Unified School District. She started working in the district's Materials Center, drove the mobile library, was an assistant Librarian, a School Secretary and a Principal's Secretary.
While working she raised a family of four children, and she made sure that everyone was able to participate in 4-H, sports, cheerleading, and other school activities. She had many friends, and after retirement and Richard's passing, she enjoyed many hours of poker and other card games; participating in several groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Long. She is survived by her children Dixie, Andy (Nancy), Penny (Daniel), and Terri; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, her sister Carroll, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
