James Martin Butler, Sr. (Bob) was born on March 10, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida , but raised in Crawfordville, Florida, a suburb of Tallahassee. He was born to Jeff Davis Butler and Elizabeth Swindle. Both preceded him in death.
James attended Shadeville High School, class of 52, where he was a star basketball player. After graduation he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he enlisted in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he remained in Los Angeles. He married, and from that union 3 sons, Marlon, Norval (deceased) and Cornell were born. He later married Kathryn Mullins and from that 30 year union, James Butler, Jr. was born.
James, AKA, Bob, worked at Baylor for many years as well as Rohr Industries. After retirement he decided to go back to work and worked at Kaiser Permanente until his full retirement. When James was not hard at work, he loved watching sports and traveling with his family. He was also a Master at the BBQ.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rainey Butler; sister, Cora Butler; brothers, Jeff, Roland, Emmett, LV and Frank Butler. He was also preceded in death by his son, Norval Butler.
On May 4, 2019, James was called home. James leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Kathryn, three sons, Marlon Butler (Yvette), Cornell Butler and James Butler Jr.; two sisters, Ruby Butler and Lola Baker (Willie); five grandchildren, Marlon, Cameron, Dior, Camille and Michael; two great grandchildren, Amara, and Indyah and a host of loving family members and loyal friends.
