AKA: “LUCY” or “Fergie”
Eileen “Lucy” Ferguson, 95 latest of Hemet, CA moved on to her next adventure on Friday, July 2, 2021, at home in Hemet, CA. She went in her sleep, no pain, no drugs, at home and with dignity.
Lucy was born in 1925 in the State of Washington to George and Isabelle Alder. She grew up in Southern California and had a fierce, lifelong love of horses. She taught equitation, was a trained architectural draftsman and then moved into her life’s passion – education – when she took a position in 1957 with a school in northern India, WOODSTOCK SCHOOL, where she taught for 10 years and raised her son, Bruce.
On return from India, she studied at UCLA through her Doctorate in International Comparative Education, spending a year in Cameroon, Western Africa; then teaching in Ganado, Arizona at the College of Ganado. She spent the next 40+ years teaching at various schools, including Acacia Elementary, Mt. San Jacinto College and Hemet Adult School as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor.
She was supportive of many programs from The Ramona Pageant and Ramona Hillside Players, to various writers groups, educators associations, and was a past deacon at her Hemet 1st Presbyterian Church, a member of Habitat for Humanity, Global Volunteers in several country programs, Pardada Pardadi Girls School in India and on and on. She traveled to India and Sri Lanka with her son Bruce and participated in many educational and human rights programs in recent years. Lucy served as an inspiration to family and friends to serve the greater good, to live life every moment to its fullest, and to be the living example of effecting change through education. She lived in Four Seasons and remained an active member of the greater community to the very end.
She was an only child as is her son Bruce. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and even a first great-great granddaughter.
Her inspiration carries on through her “greater” family, her friends and the organizations she supported. Her Legacy continues.
