Willie Earl Moffett

Willie Earl Moffett, age 83, of Shreveport, Louisiana met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face on December 3, 2024, just one day shy of his 84th birthday and after a battle with Alzheimer's that never took away his kindness, loving demeanor or sense of humor. This year, he had the very best birthday of all and we have no doubt he was greeted with "Well done my good and faithful servant" from our Lord himself.

Willie Earl Moffett was born in McNairy County, TN to William Oliver and Ada Belle (Roe) Moffett in 1940. He had a fascinating and fulfilling career in the United States Air Force that spanned over 20 years, spending 5 years and 9 months of that overseas. In 1980, Willie retired from the military and began another career as a Maintenance Superintendent for Southern Plastics. He was gifted with mechanical skills throughout his life and was always fixing or assembling something. We found a carburetor in his dresser drawer just this week!

He was married to Gerry Sue Grant Moffett, the love of his life for over 62 years. They met in high school and he loved her from the start. He was a faithful, kind and an amazing man. His patience, strength and gentle nature were tested mightily throughout helping raise his children and he truly shined later in life as he nurtured his grandchildren and beloved great grandchildren. Willie had a witty sense of humor and an easy laugh and smile. He thoroughly enjoyed football, especially college football, although he never quite managed to teach Gerry the finer points of the game. His favorite teams were LSU Tigers and Tennessee Vols. He thrived on outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, gardening and even yard "work"- often mowing every single day of good weather in his later years.

Willie was saved in 1963 in San Antonio, Texas and dedicated his life from that day forward to the Great Commission. He was a longtime dedicated member and often deacon, choir member, and Sunday School and Youth teacher of various churches in the communities in which he lived, and found his last church home at First Baptist Church Blanchard and loved his church family very much. He enjoyed the fellowship of his church community and his Sunday school class.

Willie was preceded in death by both of his parents; one son, Rex Dion Moffett; six brothers; and three sisters.

Willie Earl Moffett is survived by his loving wife, Gerry Moffett; sons, Danny Moffett and wife Karen of Sheridan, AR, and Tony Moffett and wife Nova of Shreveport, LA; one brother, Charlie Moffett of Adamsville, TN; grandchildren, James Moffett (Brittani), Joshua Moffett (Megan), Aubry Moffett (Breanna), Aaron Moffett, Hayden Moffett, Holden Moffett, Hunter Moffett; along with beloved bonus grandchildren, Shane Furnish, Brandon Ortiz and Bradley Alexander (Ashley); 13 great grandchildren; his sister in law, Johnnie Hall of Texarkana, TX; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends too numerous to count.

He will be missed by his "fur-ever" friend, Silas 'Sipuppy'- his loyal black teacup poodle that never left his side, comforting him even as he passed from this world, surrounded also by his loving family.

A visitation for Willie will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 beginning at 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Blanchard, 201 Attaway St., Blanchard, Louisiana, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 pm with Pastor Clay Fuqua officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family would like to express their love and thanks to First Baptist Blanchard for all of the support and prayers in his last months. Also, thanks to LifePath Hospice, who cared for him lovingly for 18 months, especially Kelsey(RN), Ernestine (CNA)and Nikki; Jennifer Hart, D.N.P.,who provided exceptional care to him for many years, and her husband, Dillon; as well as Cypress Point Nursing and Rehab, special thanks to Eric(nurse), Erica(CNA), Maddie and Kavasha for all the care, comfort and kindness.

The world has lost a truly wonderful man, but Heaven gained a wholly healed Saint of God, and as his family we are eternally grateful for his example of what a Man of God should be.
