Mary Catherine was born March 2, 1946 at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and passed away after battling years of health difficulties on February 12, 2022 in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was an English Educator for 40 years having taught at Bossier High School, Haughton High School, Airline High School, and Bossier Parish Community College. She had a special gift for teaching and a love for English Literature, grammar and drama. She especially enjoyed Kate Chopin and would often quote Shakespeare to her children. She graduated from Bossier High School in 1964 as Salutatorian where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Copy Editor for Les Memoires and a Pelican State Delegate. Some of her most treasured time after graduating was spent organizing Bossier High School reunions with her lifetime and cherished friends. After high school she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Louisiana Tech University in 1968 where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and then a Master of Arts in 1979 after moving back to Bossier City from Washington State.
She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Woodrow Haygood, her mother, Janey Mae Clark Haygood, her son, Robert William Hammel and survived by her daughter, Janey Marie Hammel Macey and husband David, and her three grandchildren Elise Marie Macey, Blaine William-Elliott Hammel, and Annabel Lee Macey.
