Martin graduated from J. O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, AL in 1979. He played the bass clarinet in the band. He attended the LPN program at J.F. Drake State Technical College. He fell in love with taking care of patients and worked at a local nursing home.
Martin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1981, serving tours in Turkey, Korea, and Colorado Springs before being assigned to Barksdale AFB. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1995.
He moved to Bossier City, LA and began a career in healthcare. He attended LSU-Shreveport and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2012.
He was blessed to join a loving and caring church and community. That led to thirty years of service to friends, coworkers, and patients. Over time those who were graced with having him as a friend became family. He worked at Christus (Shumpert) Hospital for thirty-one years with dedicated, dependable, and compassionate service and a loving demeanor.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings: Karl (Janette) Pearson, Richard Hailey Jr., Anthony (Cynthia) Hailey, Pamela Hailey Jackson, and Patricia Lynn Hailey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Viewing will be from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 24 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, LA 71037.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 25 at First Bossier Church, 2810 E. Texas St. Bossier City, LA 71111.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be forwarded to the Cross Bayou Community.
