Sissy was born to Ray and Helen Underwood on September 26, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Donnie Underwood and Marion Anderson; and her beloved son, Michael Ray Daugherty.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Keith Daugherty, and his sons, Tyler and Keith Daugherty; Timothy Livingston (Heather) and his children, Sophia, Elle, and Graham; and daughters Traci Chancellor Henigan (Arron), and her children, Mykel, McKenzie and Joseph (Lexi) Chancellor; Jasmine Aiken (Corey) and children Christian, Jaxon, Ashton, Emma, Madisyn, Emersyn.
Knowing Sissy meant knowing her grandchildren and being “Ninnie” or “Grandmother” was one of her greatest joys in life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on adventures such as a stay at the Great Wolf Lodge or going to the State Fair to enjoy their annual pineapple ice cream treat. Ninnie insisted these ice cream treats were generational and would continue regardless of cold, rain or extreme heat.
Sissy was a proud member of the Pentecostals of Bossier City (POBC). Her own mother began attending the church many years earlier when church was still in someone’s home. Sissy loved being in the kitchen at the POBC and was a great cook. During special events at church, she often found herself in a leading role of dinner service for more than two hundred guests. Unfortunately, due to health complications, she had to resign this role later in her life.
Sissy loved people, especially her family. Sissy made phone calls to her family, extended family, and church family to check on them. Whenever anyone she knew was sick, she was the first person to call and offer a word of encouragement. We often joked that Sissy’s heart was so big she probably placed flowers on the gravesite of people she didn’t even know.
Sissy was patriotic. Even when she struggled with illness, she was seen standing at the gravesite of our fallen soldiers. Her son, Ronnie, used to accompany her, and they would place flags on the graves of the fallen men and women who had bravely sacrificed for our country.
Sissy was a sacrificial caregiver. When her mother had Alzheimer’s, Sissy moved her Mom into her home and took care of her. When her mother passed away, Sissy moved her brother, Butch, into her home and became his caregiver. Following their mother’s footsteps, her daughter, Traci, and son, Ronnie, have assumed the role as Butch’s caregivers.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the members of the POBC for your unwavering love, support, phone calls, prayers, visits, and food. You showered Sissy and her family with your faithful support. In addition, the sweet aroma of your daily prayers often filled the hospital rooms and made each day brighter. A special thanks to the Dean Family for your many visits, phone calls, and support during this difficult time. Brenda Woodward, words are not enough to express how much your unwavering kindness and love meant to Sissy, her children, and her extended family. Thank you to friends, family, and neighbors who checked in and showed love and kindness to Sissy. Finally, to Ochsner LSU, Dr Tamna Wangjam, and her staff, each nurse and caregiver at the Bone Marrow Transplant Center, thank you for your professionalism and for treating Sissy with dignity and kindness.
A visitation for Marjorie will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Pentecostals of Bossier City, 2833 Viking Dr., Bossier CIty, Louisiana 71111.
