John Elton Crow, 87, passed away Friday, June 23rd at 4:30pm after a brief illness. He passed peacefully holding his daughter’s hands and surrounded by family. He was born on November 21, 1935, in Ringgold, LA to “CC” and Lena Corley Crow. At the tender age of 12, his mother passed away and he raised himself by learning a good work ethic early and making his own way. This helped form the strong, patient, kind hearted man everyone knew.
John married only once to Jo Ellen Olds Crow. They met at a football game between Haughton High School and Fair Park and he was instantly smitten. They married on June 12, 1956 and were married for 52 years. Until her passing, he supported her in every possible way until her last day, caring for her at home.
John was a Master Plumber, and at retirement in 1999, he was General Superintendent at Berg Mechanical located in Shreveport. He held multiple state plumbers licenses and was a member of Local Plumbers & Steamfitters Union #141. He was drafted at age 25 in the US Army Corps of Engineers where he used his skills in construction to serve his country.
John was a spiritual man who shared God’s love by living it every day. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and was loved and admired by many. His caring spirit and generous heart could be felt by anyone he came in contact with. John was selfless and always put others first. He was an example to so many and an example of excellence in everything he did. He has left many meaningful and happy memories for those who knew and loved him that will last a lifetime.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters: Lisa Crow and grandson John Sparks; Caryn Crow Miears and spouse Dean Miears and granddaughter, Reagan Honeycutt; Stephanie Crow Herbert and spouse Ryan Herbert and granddaughter, Lena Herbert and grandson, Luke Herbert; sister, Mary Elizabeth Lindy; brother, George Crow and spouse Nan Bigby Crow of Haughton, LA; and his special friend, Ms. Martha McGee of Haughton, along with many extended family members and a host of friendships.
