The family will be receiving friends and guests for visitation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 to begin at 1:00 PM, until time for Jerry's Celebration at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana, 71037 with Dr. Scott E. Thompson officiating under the direction of Hill Crest.
Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial Park, Haughton, Louisiana.
Jerry became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ on April 18, 1971 and was baptized into the membership of Grawood Baptist Church on April 25, 1971. He later became a member of First Baptist Church Doyline where he contributed to several ministry endeavors.
Jerry received an associate degree in computer systems. He worked many years for General Electric and retired as the Business Information Systems Manager of the Shreveport plant.
Jerry was a member of the Alabama Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Philippine Sea CVS 47 and as a member of the 215th Attack Squadron. Jerry was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged at the rank of E-3. Jerry was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and attained the position of Worshipful Master of the Sunset Lodge #438 F&AM.
Jerry was preceded in death by his sister Marie Thompson Rucker, his brother Raymond Edward Thompson, Jr., his mother Julia Martin Thompson, and his father Raymond Edward Thompson, Sr.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Mary “Cookie” Thompson, two sons Jerry Alton Thompson, Jr. (Mary), Dr. Scott Edwin Thompson (Renee), and one daughter Sharon Thompson Maggard (Ervin).
Pallbearers include grandchildren Ariel LaCaze Hart, Zachary Wayne LaCaze, Joshua Scott Thompson, Victoria LaCaze Brown, Caroline Cheramie Burnham, and Nathanial “Buck” Linebaugh.
Our family would like to extend a very special thanks to Autumn Wafer ad Vickie Webb of Compassus Hospice for their extraordinary professionalism, care, and concern for Jerry and our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
