James came to know his Lord and Savior at the age of 14 at Airline Baptist Church. God called him into the ministry at age 16 and he was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1979. James was an encourager and had a heart for people. He has stood with many families during the best of times and the worst times of their life. He was a great communicator of God’s Word and could find a sermon illustration in almost anything.
James was a man who enjoyed working. He was a youth pastor at Airline Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA, he was the Assistant Director at the Fellowship Mission in downtown Shreveport where he worked with men with drug and alcohol addictions, he was Chaplain of the Bossier City Police Department, and Chaplain for the Northwest State School in Bossier City, LA. He pastored Red River Baptist Church in Benton for 15 years, and Lifeway Fellowship in Bossier City, LA for 5 years. He sold cars for Yokem Toyota in Shreveport for 11 years. He enjoyed talking with people and he never met a stranger.
James also loved his family. He was so proud of Jessica and Jonathan and their love for Jesus. He has done so many weddings and funerals for our extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Hoover, his mother Grace Hoover; Father-in-law Joe Veuleman, Mother-in-law Ann Veuleman; brother-in-law Dennis Veuleman.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janette Hoover; his children who brought him such joy, Jessica Hoover Golden and husband Danny of Haughton, LA, and Jonathan Clayton Hoover of Dayton, Ohio.
