Gene grew up in Haughton, Louisiana and graduated from Bossier Academy. Some of his most told stories from his high school and young adult ages included playing basketball at school, reading western novels tucked behind his textbooks, competing in rodeos with his horse, Chainsaw, and watching his basset hound, Beauregard, trip over those long floppy ears.

Over the years, he drove all types of trucks to include oil tankers, log trucks, cement trucks, dump trucks, and garbage trucks. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed watching professional and college sports, reading westerns and books about history, listening to music and talk radio, and sitting on the front porch scratching his dog’s ears. He loved talking about the civil war, current politics, the latest sport statistics, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
