Carol Sue Thacker, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 24, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana. A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 29, at Bellaire Baptist Church, 1210 Bellaire Blvd, Bossier City. Officiating will be Dr. Randy Harper and Rev. Cory Tucker. The family will receive friends prior to the celebration of life from 1 to 2pm in the Worship Center of Bellaire Baptist Church.
Carol was born on April 15, 1943, in Peru, Iowa, and grew up in the small idyllic farming community of Truro, Iowa as the youngest of six children. She met the love of her life, William Carter Thacker, during high school, and they were married in 1962, enjoying almost 62 years of a beautiful partnership. A graduate of the American Institute of Business, Carol embraced the adventures of an Air Force family, living in various locations around the world. She accepted Jesus Christ in 1968 at Selmont Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama and was baptized there. In 1981, the family settled in Bossier City near Barksdale Air Force Base.
Carol served as the Executive Assistant to two mayors of Shreveport, displaying her remarkable organizational skills, integrity, and commitment to public service. For 42 years, Carol was a devoted member of Bellaire Baptist Church, serving for 28 of those years as a staff member. She worked as the Executive Assistant to the Pastor and found her true calling as the Senior Adult Minister in 2005.
Her passion for serving Christ and helping others shone brightly through her tireless dedication to her ministry and those in her care. She loved people and had a heart for serving them, and she practiced her faith every day. She put her faith into action, believing that deeds were more important than words, and actions more important than appearances. Her top priorities in life were God, family, and friends – in that order.
Carol was a wonderful wife and mother, deeply devoted to her children and family. She cherished every moment spent with her husband, Carter, daughter, Christa, son-in-law, Jason and her late son, Brian. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support created a loving home filled with laughter, encouragement, and faith. Carol's children knew they could always count on her for guidance and comfort, and her love for them was a constant source of strength in their lives.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved son, Brian Thacker; her parents, Herman Dorman, and Harriet Dorman; and her siblings, including her sister Shirley McClure and brother Howard Dorman. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill (Carter); daughter, Christa Thacker, and her husband Jason Myers; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Mastroeni-Thacker; her sisters Dixie Madsen and brother Lowell Dorman (Nedra); and brother Jim Dorman (Janis). She also leaves behind cherished memories with her grandchildren, Joel, Philip, and Justin Mastroeni, along with nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, honoring Carol's commitment to helping those in need.
Carol's warm spirit, unwavering faith, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a beacon of light, and her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those she touched.
Pallbearers will include Jason Myers, Max Moore, Bill Mackey, David Bartholomew, Davis Stevens, and Billy Ray Russell. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Zeigler and Billy Barnette.
