Louisiana. She was raised predominantly in the San Francisco, Pacific Heights area, in California; and then a long time resident of Orange County, California. Later, Barbara Jean moved to West Monroe, Louisiana in 1998. She and her husband resided there until 2018, when they moved to Bossier City,
Louisiana to be closer to family.
Most folks who knew Barbara Jean well affectionately called her, “Jeannie”. Jeannie was a wife
to Ellis Wayne Mcdonald for 30 years and a mom to Barbara Kay Fleming and Tina Jean
Iversen. She was also a stepmother to Kelly Smith. She was a member of the West Monroe
Protestant Methodist Church in West Monroe, and she enjoyed hobbies such as gardening,
collecting Christmas villages, a tasty scoop of mac and cheese on any day, a good crossword
puzzle, collecting jewelry, and binge-watching a marathon of her favorite TV shows! Jeannie
and her husband enjoyed spending time together and with family, especially giving kisses to the
grandbabies.
Barbara Jean was preceded in death by: her parents, father, Donnie Ray Carr who retired from the
US Coast Guard and her mother, Shirley Loraine Audiss. She was also preceded in death by
her eldest daughter, Barbara Kay Fleming and siblings, brother, James “Jimmy” Carr and sister
Judy Carr.
Surviving members of her family are her husband Ellis Wayne McDonald of Bossier
City, Louisiana, Tina Iversen and life partner Mark Bailey of Santa Rosa, California. Other
surviving family members include her stepdaughter Kelly Smith and husband David Smith of
Bossier City, La and grandchildren Lauren Barnett and Greer Sandoz of Bossier City, Louisiana
respectively. She also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren and a couple of great caregivers
Vanessa and Tina.
Services to celebrate Jeannie's life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Max Cunningham. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 12:30 P.M. prior to the service.
