Born December 31, 1928 in Richmond, VA; he was the son of the late Rev. Richard and Mary (Lee) Burnette; and preceded in death by his wife, Carmela G. Burnette; and sister, Elizabeth Lee.
Surviving is his brother, Richard Burnette; grandson, Steven A. Bradney; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was a retired employee from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot and a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he served in the air, on the sea and below as pilot and submariner.
Bill taught and was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing at several local churches.
He was a graduate of Gold State University, Old Dominion University and Rhode Island School of Design, receiving Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Literature.
He loved to travel the world with his wife, his lifelong hobby was building detailed ships that would take years to complete. A lot where given away in his later years for others to enjoy. He enjoyed telling stories from his childhood and jokes. He could keep a conversation going from all his life experiences. Most of all he cared dearly for his family, especially his wife, brother and his large extended family, he will be sadly missed.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to local military charities.
