She was born May 27, 1918 in Harrisburg, PA the daughter and second child
of the late Stephen Decatur Carlisle and Clara Rebecca Duttenhoffer Carlisle.
Prior to her retirement, she worked at American Can Company. She was a member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ, Linglestown, PA.
She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Stephen Jr., George, Virginia, William, Robert, Jean, Anna and Esther and by her beloved husband of 59 years, Marlin Woodrow "Barney" Barr in 1997.
Sara was a strong and independent woman whose legacy is a determined strength of purpose and an abiding love for family.
Through her life and her work she created joy and comfort for her children, laughter for her friends, and love beyond measure for her husband.
She was a survivor of the Great Depression and a woman of America's Greatest Generation whose home front WWII work was in support of her husband who sailed with the fleet off the coast of North Africa and all others who served.
Sara is survived by her daughters: Virginia Barr and Marlene Barr, grandson, Greg Seibert and nieces and nephews who revered her as the Matriarch of the family.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA, with the Reverend Anne Myers and the Reverend Donald Wetzel officiating. The visitation will be from 11 am to noon. The service will commence at noon until 1pm followed by interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
