Born September 4, 1939, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Eleanor (Serfass) Brown. As the youngest of 10 children, Louise was predeceased by 6 sisters; Frances Scheirer, Mariam “Mickey” Rosati, Evelyn Young, Virginia “Ginny” Schaffer, Bernadine Nigro, and Elizabeth “Betty” Chestnut; and 3 brothers, Matthew, Bernard, and Lester Brown.
Surviving is her daughter, Anita Osborne (Tim), of Harrisburg; 2 sons, Thomas Serfass (Tometta), of Decatur, Illinois and David Serfass, of Halifax; 4 grandchildren, T.J. Osborne, of Washington, D.C., Clarissa Brooks, Amber Serfass, and Heather Smith, all of Decatur, Illinois; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Louise had a compassionate heart and always took care of others, but found it difficult to ask for help when she needed it most. She was a strong, caring, independent woman throughout her life, always living it on her terms. She loved her family immensely, and was a loving, protective mother and grandmother who was always there to lend a hand, an ear, or a shoulder. Louise was also a faithful friend, as evidenced by the many long friendships she treasured, several lasting over 50 years.
Louise was retired from Penn National Insurance, working in the Claims Department. Prior to that, she worked several different jobs. As a waitress at the former Country Oven/Harrisburg Motel, she hustled, joked around with the tight-knit staff, and was well-liked by her repeat customers.
In her early years, she enjoyed swimming, boating, and water skiing. Always the life of the party, Louise enjoyed dancing, going to bingo, playing cards, and going with friends to the casinos in Atlantic City. She loved angels, Elvis Presley, and doing puzzles. Grammy (aka Grams) enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren when they were young, playing cards and board games, and giving them “Grammy kisses.” Grams was also an avid supporter of her grandson’s many sporting events.
To celebrate Louise’s life, a Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, August 2, 2021, in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. A viewing will be from 1:30 PM, Monday, until the time of the service at the funeral home.
