Laurel Smith, 65, of Harrisburg, passed away on March 31, 2020 in her home unexpectedly.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Thelma "Colleen" Harris. Laurel attended the University of Maryland and served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a Medical Specialist.
She spent most of her years as an Assistant Underwriter for Penn National Insurance in Baltimore, MD and worked for various other insurance agencies in PA. Years prior, Laurel was a Teacher's Aide in Baumholder, Germany while her husband was stationed there.
Laurel’s true joys in life were her two children, Michael and Erica "Nikki", and her granddaughter, Ryleigh. She enjoyed watching Nikki's dance recitals and never missed any of Michael’s soccer matches. She was their biggest fan. Laurel "Lala" loved playing with Ryleigh and always gave her great love and attention when playing together. Her other joys were her love for line-dancing, karaoke - Patsy Cline songs being her favorite - and of course the Baltimore Ravens. She was one of the friendliest people with one of the biggest hearts anyone could meet. Anywhere she went, she could strike up a conversation with anyone on mostly any subject and always had a smile on her face.
She is survived by her children, their spouses Gulia and Jonathan, her granddaughter, and her constant feline companions Lewi and Reed, named after former Ravens players, and many other friends, too many to mention.
Laurel was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard "Buddy" Galvin.
At a later date, a private celebration of life will be held with the joy of knowing that Laurel danced her way through the pearly gates in her cowgirl boots and hat while listening to her favorite country songs, wearing her Baltimore Ravens jersey.
Donations can be made in her memory to the ASPCA or the Alzheimer’s Association.
