Joan A. Miller, 80, of Rutherford Heights, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on February 22, 2022, in her home. Joan was born in Williamstown, PA on March 5, 1941, to the late Geurne and Henrietta Trautman.
Joan was a 1959 graduate of the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg.
For 30 years, Joan drove school bus for Central Dauphin School District. After retiring from full-time driving, Joan continued with the district for another 10 years, driving sports teams and field trips. Prior to working for CD, Joan was a waitress at both Jim High’s Restaurant and Inn 22.
A 60-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Capital City Chapter #146 and Harrisburg Chapter #552, Joan served twice as Worthy Matron with Capital City Chapter. Her greatest honor was being chosen to serve as the Grand Warder for the Pennsylvania Grand Chapter of OES in 2017/2018.
Joan loved spending time with her family, especially when they were all together on one of the many family cruises they took.
Joan survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles Miller; son Curt Miller and his wife, Tracie of Harrisburg; son Craig Miller and his wife Annie of Cypress, CA; three grandchildren, Chase Miller (Samantha) of Old Hickory, TN, Rusty Miller (Amanda) of Claymont, Delaware and Summer Miller of Cypress, CA; one great-grandson, Waylon Litton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Geurne and Henrietta Trautman; brother Thomas Trautman, and his wife Helen, and her Aunt, Helen James.
An Eastern Star service, followed by the Funeral Service, will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022, in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m., Thursday, until the service at the funeral home.
