She was born June 30, 1926, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Rufus F. and Maude Shumate Shoemaker. On May 10, 1950 she married Rome Carl Ladd Sr., who preceded her in death on July 17, 2000.
Annie was retired from JP Stevens after 15 years of service. More importantly she was the wife, mother and grandmother of a dairy farming family.
Annie was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ in North Wilkesboro, NC. She loved her God, her church and her church family. They could always be counted on when she needed them.
Annie also loved working in her flower gardens and going for road trips, although she always wanted to be back home to sleep in her own bed.
Mom, thank you for your life lessons and your unconditional love, and raising us in a Christian home.
Mamaw, thank you for your homemade biscuits, mashed potatoes and always having a dessert on the table. Thank you for letting us make a mess in your house and you not get “to” upset. Most of all thank you for being the best babysitter ever when we were little. That time will always be precious to us.
Annie was also preceded in death by brothers, Tom Shoemaker and Ed Shoemaker and a sister Hester Shoemaker.
Annie and Carl were the parents to five boys and one girl: Rome Carl (Pam) Ladd Jr., Kenneth Dale (Terri) Ladd, Thomas Edward Ladd, James Ray Ladd, Lloyd Allen (Sharon) Ladd, and Carolyn (Doug) Tharpe, all of Harmony; eight grandchildren: Renee (Doug) Holland, Patricia (Justin) Overman, Michael (Christie) Ladd, “B” Ladd, Travis (Megan) Ladd, Britni (Charles) Bess, Hunter Tharpe and Taylor Tharpe; eight great-grandchildren: Ethan Holland, Emily Holland, Andrew Ladd, Austin Ladd, Sarah Overman, Daniel Overman, Cooper Ladd and Samuel Bess.
